At Healthy Weight 4 Me, we provide the 4 key elements that give you the best opportunity to maintain a healthy weight long term when other efforts have failed. Our team of professionals combines nutrition education, behavior modification, exercise instruction, and support for a comprehensive, proven approach to weight loss. We utilize the New Direction® Weight Control System- a successful, scientifically-evaluated program that has been in use since 1989.
The New Direction program is a medically supervised very low calorie diet (VLCD) which utilizes meal replacement products to meet an indivual’s nutritional needs. No food is consumed during the initial phase of rapid weight loss, although this can be modified to incorporate one meal when necessary. This program is appropriate for women who have at least 40 pounds to lose; men who have at least 50 pounds to lose. The average weight loss is 3-5 pounds weekly. The New Direction weight program contains complete nutrition with no need for any vitamin or mineral supplements. This program has fewer side-effects than a food-based VLCD with greater long-term weight loss. To qualify, you must be at least 18 years of age with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater, or a BMI of 27 or greater with co-existing weight-related medical problems.
This is a Low Calorie Diet (LCD) appropriate for those who have at least 10 pounds to lose or a BMI greater than 25. The average weight loss varies from 2-3 pounds weekly and utilizes 2-3 meal replacements with one grocery store meal.
The two programs, New Direction and New Outlook, incorporate medical monitoring and brief weekly group support and educational meetings. Individual appointments with our dietician, exercise physiologist, or behaviorist are scheduled as needed.
The New Choices program is for anyone with any amount of weight to lose. This particular program utilizes an exchange system for structuring well balanced meals and healthy snacks from grocery store food. Average weight loss is 0.5- 2lbs per week. Participants may attend weekly classes and monitoring or schedule one-on-one visits. Follow up visits are to monitor weight and food / activity daily logs.
4 Phase Program Structure (for New Direction® Weight Control System)
1.) The Screening Phase- Consists of an in-depth nutritional and exercise questionnaire, a behavioral interview, personal and family medical history, and a complete physical exam which helps determine which program is best for you. Labs and EKG are performed, unless these tests have been recently done and are available for us to review.
2.) The Reducing Phase- Begins with an orientation meeting with instructions regarding meal replacements, food diaries, and activities. Lab testing and physical exam are performed every 4weeks.
3.) The Adapting Phase- This phase begins when the participant is within 5-10lbs of their goal weight. Grocery store foods are slowly integrated into daily meal plans with thorough instructions given each step of the way. The participant continues with new eating and exercise habits. Medical monitoring continues but is less frequent.
4.) The Sustaining Phase- During this phase we continue to provide relapse prevention and assistance with meal plans.
